Zaven Panossian is a Specialist Physician, Diabetologist and Endocrinologist at Counties Manukau Health holding a Consultant role at Middlemore Hospital and Manukau and Botany Super Clinics in addition to a Community Diabetes Clinic in Mangere. He is joining the Medical Specialists Group in February 2016.
 
After completing his basic medical training and internship at the University of Baghdad School of Medicine in Iraq, Zaven and his family moved to New Zealand in 1995 to call it home. He progressed through his postgraduate specialist training in Internal Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology in the main Auckland region training centres and worked with colleagues to publish studies in international medical journals. He obtained his Royal Australasian College of Physicians fellowship (FRACP) in 2012. 
 
Zaven has a wide experience in the management of diabetes and various medical and endocrine disorders. In addition to his Armenian mother tongue he also speaks fluent English and Arabic. He welcomes referrals from General Practitioners and Specialist colleagues and is able to see patients at the Mercy Specialist Centre on Thursday mornings. 
 
Zaven’s interests and expertise include:
  • Diabetes – including diabetes in pregnancy and diabetes treated with insulin pumps.
  • The Metabolic Syndrome – including hypertension, dyslipidaemia and obesity.
  • Thyroid disorders – including Graves’ disease, various types of thyroiditis and autonomous and toxic thyroid nodules including thyroid cancer.
  • Parathyroid disorders, Osteoporosis and Paget's disease of the bone. 
  • Pituitary disorders – including hyperprolactinaemia, pituitary adenomas and hypopituitarism.
  • Adrenal disorders - including hyperaldosteronism, Cushing’s syndrome and Addison’s disease.
  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
  • Male Hypogonadism.
