Dr Veronique Nicolaou is an experienced specialist physician and endocrinologist consulting at Allevia Specialist Centre. She brings a comprehensive background in internal medicine and endocrinology, with particular expertise in women’s health, thyroid disorders (including thyroid nodules and cancer), transgender medicine, and a wide range of other endocrine conditions.
She completed her medical education at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, earning her MBBCh in 2002. She subsequently trained as a specialist in internal medicine (2011) and endocrinology (2014). She also holds a Master of Medicine and a PhD in the field of gestational diabetes and continues to review journal articles and publish papers.
Dr Nicolaou served as a full-time clinician with an academic role at a leading tertiary hospital in Johannesburg until she relocated to New Zealand in 2021. She worked at Whangārei Hospital, Northland, as a specialist physician and endocrinologist from 2021 to 2025 and continues to support their endocrine services remotely. In 2023, she was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Adult Medicine Division) and holds full vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. She is an honorary member at the University of Auckland.
